DEREK
REDMOND
Derek Redmond will be forever remembered for the semi-finals of the Olympic Games in Barcelona where he hobbled the last 250 metres after a serious hamstring injury mid race. The footage has become one of the most enduring sporting images of modern times.
Despite his career being tragically cut short, Derek still managed an extraordinary number of on track achievements including:
Broke the British 400m record for the first time 1985, beating the 10 year old mark set by David Jenkins, before reclaiming the record from Roger Black in 1987.
Commonwealth & European Champion in 4x400m Relay in 1986 World Silver Medallist in 1987.
World Gold Medallist in the 4 x 400m Relay in 1991, running the second fastest time ever recorded for the 4x400m Relay.
Derek's achievements were all the more remarkable because he defied the odds to succeed, overcoming a catalogue of serious injuries.
Away from the athletics track Derek has played basketball for England and the Birmingham Bullets. He coaches and advises international athletes at Birchfield Harriers and has played rugby union for Coventry RFC and Stow RFC.
As a motivational speaker, Derek provides a unique and entertaining insight into what it takes to persevere, overcome obstacles and succeed as an individual and as a team.
As one of Britain's greatest ever 400m athletes, Derek is able to bring a unique perspective to what it takes to set goals, overcome obstacles and succeed.
Derek has drawn on his vast experiences as an international sportsman to provide a fascinating and inspirational platform for his motivational speeches. Not only does he offer unique insights into famous sporting moments, but also as an uplifting approach to what it took to defy odds and succeed - both as an individual and as a team.
