MIKE HAMMER

After - dinner speaker, Former BBC TV Presenter, Comedian and Riotous Rock musician.

Born in Salford during the first half of the last century ....yes he's 50. Mike has enjoyed a rich and varied lifestyle and career.

After completing a Diploma in Art and Design at Salford College of Art he immediately turned professional as a lead guitarist in the Manchester based rock band SUNSHINE. By the early 70's Mike was a much sought after session guitarist and played regularly with WAYNE FONTANA & THE MIND- BENDERS, SHANE FENTON and ALVIN STARDUST.

Always the joker in the band, Mike soon found himself alone on the stage telling stories of his antics as a tearaway "Rock Guitarist".

SEX, DRUGS and ROCK 'N ROLL? (The chance would be a fine thing these days ! ! ! ) But a very fine thing it was then. Life was a non-stop party for a raunchy, young and careless musician, although the nearest he personally got to drugs, was a large scotch.

As a main presenter on Playschool for its final six years, he recalls numerous "behind the scenes" scandals and intrigues worthy of a page in the News of the World.

A wander down memory lane. Hippies! Groupies! Luvvies! Remember those wild fashions?

The Punk era and the BBC TV years! Mike also has a rather quirky view of the English! After travelling the world he's clocked up a good number of hours "people watching" especially watching the English away from home. Mike has also worked as a stand-up comedian, extensively in the UK. Europe and Southern Africa.

His humour is cheeky, informed, sharp and witty, but never, NEVER offensive.
