PAUL SLOANE


Paul Sloane studied engineering at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and graduated with a first class honours degree. He is a Chartered Engineer.

Paul has had a successful career in the computer industry. After working initially for the Ministry of Defence in electronic instrumentation he joined IBM in manufacturing, then moved into sales coming top of IBM Sales School and was part of the team which launched the IBM PC in the UK in 1982. In 1984 he joined Ashton Tate, the world leader in database software as UK Marketing Director and led its growth in the UK, subsequently becoming UK Managing director and then Northern European Managing Director. In 1993 he became Vice President of International Sales for Mathsoft Inc. leaders in Mathematical software. He left Mathsoft in July 2001 to take up the position as CEO at a leading British software company.

He is well known in the software industry and has had articles on software issues published in the Daily Telegraph, Which Computer, Infomatics and Microscope.

Paul has written six popular books on Lateral Thinking. The first was Lateral Thinking Puzzlers published by sterling in 1991. It became a best seller in the USA and has been translated into Spanish, Swedish, German and Portuguese. This was followed by five other books including Test Your Lateral Thinking and Improve your Lateral Thinking (co-authored by Paul Sloane and Des MacHale). His latest publication is 'Tricky Lateral Thinking Puzzles'. These books are stimulating entertainment and have established Paul's reputation as the leading expert on lateral thinking puzzles. He has appeared on radio many times in the UK, USA and Canada to talk on this subject.

Paul Sloane has given many talks at both business events, after dinner and interactive workshops on lateral thinking. He has a reputation as an amusing, motivational and business speaker. His talks can also focus on innovative approaches to Sales, Marketing and IT. His recent clients include BT, DHL, L'Oreal, Vodafone and Bull UK.
