PHIL WOOD
Phil Wood and friend (Phil's on the
right..)
Phil Wood has been broadcasting for over 20 years. Although now with the BBC he started behind the microphone at
Manchester's Piccadilly Radio where Chris Evans used to brew up, and you would hear
"Put some more Wood on the Wireless!"
Phil is one of the voices of the Northwest. He's co-presented a programme with the late great Kenny Everett and interviewed most
A-list celebrities: probably more than once.
He's sung a duet with Kenny Rogers, done the Parrot Sketch with Michael Palin and played a large part in introducing Julio Iglesias to the UK charts.
Phil has introduced Fleetwood Mac at Manchester City's Main Road Stadium and presented the
after show entertainment for 17 countries at the Eurovision Song Contest (BBC TV)
in Harrogate.
A talented auctioneer, he recently held the gavel at the Palace Theatre Manchester
during the Steve Harley concert interval - selling many of Steve's personal treasures for charity.
The gavel came out again on the occasion of a silver heart tribute from the Variety Club of Great Britain to Bruce Jones (Coronation
Street's Les Battersby). Phil raised over £20,000 in twenty minutes in January 2005.
He is a keen skier and has presented programmes from Aspen Colorado to Zermatt Switzerland
- actually from the top of the Matterhorn in a helicopter.
Phil can often be seen MC-ing corporate pre match dinners at Manchester United home games and is at ease both in a male or mixed atmosphere.
