PROF. DOUGLAS McWILLIAMS


Douglas McWilliams is the founder and Chief Executive of the Centre for Economic and Business Research - one of the UK's leading commercial economics think tanks. 

He is also a Visiting Professor at Kingston University Business School, a member of the Councils of the Foundation for Manufacturing and Industry and the Institute for Fiscal Studies and Economic Adviser to the Chartered Institute of Marketing and to NCL Investments Ltd.

The Centre for Economics and Business Research is recognised as one of the top UK economic forecasting groups and has specialist knowledge of key industrial sectors including road and rail transport, retailing, cars, vans, trucks, property, construction, plastics and information technology. 

The Centre has pioneered a series of innovative forecasting techniques for combining economic information with business data. The Centre is also the leading forecaster of local economies in the UK, running the LCCI/CEBR London Economy Model.

Douglas was previously IBM UK Chief Economist and Manager of Market Research, Chief Economic Adviser for the Confederation of British Industry, and Chairman of the Economics forecasting group of UNICE, the European federation of employers' organisations.

He was educated at Stonyhurst College and Lincoln College, Oxford. His M.Phil in Economics included a thesis on the Malaysian electronics industry which accurately predicted (in l973) the development of the South East Asian electronics industry. His publications include UK Inflation Performance with Andrew Sentance, Basic Economics with Tom Congdon and the best-selling London's Contribution to the UK Economy.

He is regular contributor for The Times and is a frequent broadcaster on television and radio.
