RICHARD NOBLE OBE

Richard Noble is a highly effective inspirational and motivational speaker .

When he was six years old he saw John Cobb's water speed record boat "Crusader" on Loch Ness and from then on he had an overwhelming desire to break, not the world water record but the world land speed record.

In 1974, while working for GKN Mills Building Services as a Marketing Manager, Richard started building Thrust 1, the first British jet car. Unfortunately, this car crashed during a high speed run at RAF Fairford in March 1977 and was sold for scrap the same day for £175.00.

From there, the Project turned to Thrust 2. John Ackroyd, the designer, was found and slowly a team of twenty five dedicated people was formed.

With over £1 million in cash sponsorship raised and approximately 0.75 million pounds in product support achieved, Richard and the team prepared for the final challenge. But there were several setbacks with flooding and general bad weather at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1981.

Finally, in desperation, the Project switched to the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. After several runs, the weather changed and the team again had to return to Britain. Finally on 4th October 1983, Thrust 2 broke the world land speed record with an average speed over two runs of 633.468 m.p.h.

Richard Noble received the following awards:-
RAC Diamond Jubilee Trophy;  FISA Land Speed Record Trophy; British Racing Drivers Club Gold Star; John Cobb Memorial Trophy; Sir Malcolm Campbell Trophy; Driver of the year - 1983
- Guild of Motoring Writers; O.B.E.

One of Richards's challenges was spearheading the business sponsorship scheme to build and launch the ultimate ocean racer for speed record crossing of the Atlantic. His recent major project was to break his own land speed record and this was successfully achieved in September of 1997, when together with his driver Andy Green and the rest of the SSC Thrust team a speed of 714mph was recorded in the Nevada Desert.

But it was on October 13th 1997 they made their greatest achievement yet on the sands of the Nevada Desert - the breaking of the Sound Barrier on land at 764! The whole project was filmed from start to finish and in February of 1998 was a major feature over two nights, in the BBC series 'The Mission', which follows the stories behind feats of human endeavour.

At the end of 1999 Richard launched a new high-speed venture, a five seater executive plane. He is planning for the 380 mph Farnborough F1 aircraft to be in production by 2004. Richard aims to operate the low-noise plane from small airfields to avoid the logjams expected in European airports over the next decade. It can cruise at far higher speeds than scheduled airliners and is a true innovation.
