TONY GUBBA

Tony Gubba

Tony Gubba has been one of the faces and voices of BBC TV sport for over 25 years.

During that time he has appeared on the nation's television screens as the presenter of all the BBC's major sports programmes, such as 'Sportsnight'. 'Grandstand' and 'Match of the Day', but is now best known for his work as a sports commentator.

Tony has been one of the familiar Saturday night voices on the BBC's flagship football programme 'Match of the Day' for over two decades, and during his time has also commentated on skiing, skating, table tennis, squash, cycling, hockey and, most recently, golf.

He has been part of the BBC commentary team at every football World Cup since Germany in 1974 and has also attended virtually every Olympic Games, both summer & winter, since 1972. His name and voice are well known to Britain's armchair audience of sports fans.

Prior to moving into television he was a national newspaper journalist and later the BBC's North of England correspondent. He has vast experience as a television interviewer and documentary filmmaker.

Now an accomplished speaker on the after-dinner circuit, Tony is a relaxed communicator who can work off-the-cuff and is equally at home in front of a lively audience at a sportsman's evening or the senior executives at a company dinner. He has the gravitas to front-up an important product launch or presentation.

On a personal level, Tony was an amateur footballer who still plays tennis and golf, and, in the appropriate circles, is well known as a writer of articles about salmon fishing.
